Popeye's is Popeye's, so I'll review the location. Fast, courteous staff and I've never had a wrong order. The other day, we were placing our order at the drive-thru (a bunch of random stuff) and the teller suggested we get one of the combos and saved us a buck!
She totally didn't have to, but it made us very happy. -

The Popeye's on olden avenue is in desperate need of new management and employees. Soon as you walk in you're greeted with a strong smell or dead mice and old mop water. So we know cleaning isn't an option at this location. The drive-thru have insane wait times. You figure after waiting 25 mins your order will be correct. Nope not at all.

I'm only reviewing this location because they have stellar service. Order is always correct and their food is always fresh and the people are always so nice. If you have to drive a little extra and come here.

I have been on a fried chicken binge lately, and when in that frame of mind any source of crispy skinned plump breasted chicken can capture my attention. Popeye's is no exception.
So it was, as I drove over to Prince's to give it another try, that I saw the bright orange sign and building for the Popeye's on North Olden. Impulse got the better of me and I made the hard left into their drive thru line. I had difficulty deciphering the menu, so I just ordered a few pieces breasts and wings. Seems I had to order a side and a drink or they couldn't handle my order. It turned out to be cheaper if I did one of their combos rather than just individual pieces.
When I arrived home and opened the box I beheld a large breast and wing that were bigger than I had seen on most chickens. It had me wondering what they feed those birds. The coating was as bright orange as the box it came in, and deeply textured. Perhaps, the cumin and chili in the Spicy option affected the presentation.
The meat was still moist and very tasty. Each piece was much larger than what I had sampled at the other place the week before. The chicken easily parted from the bone and my fingers pulled off most of what was edible. The rest I worked over with a fork to get into all the bone crannies.
The side dish (coleslaw) was pedestrian, and the biscuit was fairly deflated by the time I got to it. So, the thing to do is order the combo, throw away the sides and biscuit and go to town on the chicken itself.
It may not be the same as what is available in those little chicken shacks on the side of the road in Virginia or North Carolina, but it will do nicely up in Jersey on a wintery night. -

Friendly service. If you have coupons, make sure to print them out! Standard Popeyes is always satisfying, and the shift manager with the last name Shah is super accommodating and helped me with my order! Cajun Fries were also fresh and crispy!
